Laboratory Technician (Laborant) (m/f)

with Administrative & Secretarial Support Responsibilities

Location: Lenart (Maribor area)

Laboratory Technician (Laborant) is a combined role covering routine laboratory support work and structured administrative/secretarial support for the lab team. The position should focus on basic sample processing and routine lab activities, alongside strong support for administrative tasks such as documentation, scheduling, coordination with external service providers, invoice handling, and general office/secretarial support.

Main Activities & Key Accountabilities

1. Laboratory Technical Activities (approx. 60%)

  • Perform routine laboratory analyses on incoming samples as a laboratory technician (laborant), including basic sample preparation and processing using standardized methods
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment through calibration, cleaning, and first-line troubleshooting to ensure safe and continuous operation
  • Execute sample handling including reception, registration, labeling, preparation, and tracking to ensure full traceability
  • Verify and document analytical results according to defined criteria; escalate deviations or unclear findings for review
  • Support laboratory quality and safety compliance by following established procedures and maintaining accurate records

2. Administrative, Coordination & Secretarial Support (approx. 40%)

  • Process routine administrative documentation including incoming invoices and structured filing
  • Perform secretarial tasks such as drafting, formatting, and distributing standard correspondence
  • Maintain scheduling and calendar coordination for meetings, appointments, and visits
  • Coordinate communication with external service providers including scheduling and confirmations
  • Organize travel and accommodation for visitors and staff
  • Support meeting preparation and follow-up including agendas and basic minutes
  • Ensure daily office administration including correspondence flow and contact list maintenance

Role Requirements

Education

  • Secondary education in chemistry (slo: srednja kemijska šola) or equivalent laboratory qualification
  • Alternatively: First Bologna degree (Bachelor level) in chemistry, laboratory sciences, or related field
  • Additional training in laboratory safety, quality systems, or office administration is an advantage
  • Language skills: English and/or German (spoken and written) required
  • Driving licence Category B required

Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in routine laboratory work in an industrial or analytical environment
  • Experience in sample preparation, standardized methods, and structured workflows
  • Experience in SOP- and quality-driven environments
  • Administrative support experience (invoicing, scheduling, correspondence) is beneficial
  • Experience coordinating external service providers is an advantage

Skills, Methods & Competences

  • Basic laboratory analytical skills for routine standardized testing
  • Flexibility in switching between laboratory and administrative tasks
  • Administrative skills including invoicing, filing, correspondence, and document handling
  • Equipment handling including calibration, maintenance, and first-line troubleshooting
  • Documentation and data management ensuring traceability and accuracy
  • Scheduling, coordination, and organizational skills for appointments, travel, and logistics
  • Communication skills for interaction with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to cooperate in a combined technical and administrative role with strong service orientation and reliability
  • Strong self-organization and prioritization skills to manage mixed workloads efficiently
  • Attention to detail, quality awareness, and ability to escalate issues appropriately
  • No leadership responsibility, but active contribution to smooth team operations and coordination
